Classroom Maneagement
Classroom management is not about punishing the students for showing bad behavior, but it is a motivational tool in the educative process. The students need to know where their boundaries are and also what types of behaviors are okay in the classroom. Without classroom management, the students will not learn the information during class time. Within my classroom, the classroom management system will guide students’ thinking and create a safe environment for their learning experience. My classroom management plan redirects students’ behavior to think in a positive way to be successful in the classroom and society. In order to redirect the students thinking you must establish a safe environment, organized space, high expectations, goals, and of course patience.
Safety
Classroom management plans assure students are all safe. They need to feel comfortable to participate in discussions. Creating this safe environment is crucial because the students must be able to speak their minds without judgment and also know what behaviors are acceptable within the classroom. It also helps the students share and learn together because they create a trusting bond that expands their social skills. Students then won’t be afraid to make mistakes because mistakes are part of the learning process. When they become comfortable enough at to make mistakes, they will learn to be more successful and their growth will show in many subject areas.
Organization
Having a clear classroom management plan helps the students stay focused on the task at hand. If the classroom is organized, the students will be able to focus on the activities we are doing because there is less distraction in the classroom. This is a vital part of classroom management because it is the foundation of student learning and engagement. I must be able to keep a clear and organized space to keep students focused and myself focused on creating student success.
Goals and Expectations
I will make sure that my objectives in my lessons are clear, but also challenging. This is an important part of my classroom management plan. If you set high goals and expectations for student activities and their behavior in the classroom, the students should be able to accomplish more because they will strive to meet the goals you have set. When setting these goals you must assure that the students are willing to meet these goals and that they are achievable for all learning goals. Students love to be challenged even if they don't succeed the first time, the will strive to do their best the next time and continue to strive to meet the goals that were set. Goals are meant to be achieved, but they may not always be met. It is my job to help the student achieve these goals.
Patience
Yelling and constantly redirecting the students will never work because they will begin to ignore you and continue that unacceptable behavior. Students need to learn life-long skills like becoming self-regulated learners. Be patient and willing to give opportunities to the students to learn how to redirect themselves with support and guidance when necessary. This is a great tool that teachers should use because it helps the students understand and self-correct their behavior. Silence redirects them.
Overall, students need to have these foundations so they can become successful and feel safe enough to make mistakes and learn. As teachers we must continually be aware of how the students are doing and how our own actions affect the expectations that are set for the students. Yelling and constantly redirecting the students is ineffective, but when you are patient and willing to have the students redirect themselves, it then becomes a learning opportunity for all the students. Patience is a great tool because it helps the students understand and self-regulate their behavior and actions. Teachers must understand that students need to make mistakes in order to grow and become successful in the classroom and community. Without a classroom management plan the classroom would be chaotic and learning would be less successful. Classroom management is the foundation to success.
