Teaching Philosophies: A personal outlook, belief, or self-reflective statements about teaching and learning.
Teaching philosophies are a way for teachers to express their beliefs within the teaching community. My three philosophies are my beliefs on grading practices, classroom management, and of course my teaching philosophy. Each philosophy not only includes my ideas involving the classroom environment, but also the community that surrounds them. Being a teacher not only has to involve the class and the students in them, but also the parents, staff, school districts, and community members. As teachers it is our job to ask ourselves what is my individual role and why.
Within my philosophy of education you will fine my ideas of how the school, community, teachers, students, and the true purpose of education. In order to be successful these roles must be intertwined and be able to work well together to create a successful learning experience.
My grading philosophy I decided to answer the common questions about grading to fully be able to use grading in a purposeful way. You have to define what the purpose of grading is, what do you keep grades on, how do you incorporate study habits, how late work, extra credit, and incomplete work affect grades, and do you give zeros. Grading is a huge part in the educational process because this helps the students achieve their individual goals and the classroom goals. Grading can be used in the wrong ways, but by answering the questions above you can achieve great grading practices, and your students will be successful.
The last philosophy is my classroom management plan which describes how my classroom will be ran, but also how I will establish a safe environment for the students so they can feel free to learn with out feeling discouraged or hindered. Having a classroom management plan is crucial for student learning so they can become successful and not be afraid to make mistakes.
