Teaching Philosophy
Within the education system there are many roles that one must face in order to be successful. Each role must intertwine with the other and act on an individual level as well. While on my journey of becoming a teacher I am learning that there are many aspects of teaching that are not always addressed. What is the purpose of education and what does that mean to me? What is the role of the teacher, the community, the school, and the student? These questions must be answered and always reflected on to become a successful teacher.
What is the purpose of education?
• The role of education is to guide students to be successful in various subjects. Education helps shape the students to become successful in the future and helps the student find what areas or careers suit him or her specifically. Depending on the way the material is taught the students will embrace education and the learning process. They will yearn for more information and activities. I believe that the true purpose of education is to excite the students about learning and to motivate them to become successful.
What is the role of the teacher?
• The role of the teacher is to help students grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially over the course of time we have together. As a teacher I must be able to adapt and be resourceful and differentiate lessons for all learning levels and styles. I also need to be knowledgeable about the information that I am teaching. As a teacher I create activities that are hands on and that will challenge the students to think on a deeper level. I set high goals for my students because I know they will be able to reach whatever goal is set. My major role is to guide the students to become successful and connect with them to create a safe and enjoyable educational environment. It is my job to adjust to many learning styles and adapt my own teaching methods so they can be successful. I must be an active part within the school and the community, and reflect on my own teaching. I am able to assess the needs of all students, adapt, and create activities to enhance student learning and engagement.
What is the role of the school?
• The role of the school is to be a support system for students and teachers. It is a small community where all students and teachers feel safe and strive for greatness. The community serves as a relationship from teacher to student and student to teacher. It is a community of enthusiastic hopes and dreams that become achievable with the guidance and support of others within that community.
What is the role of the student?
• The role of the student is to achieve individual goals. Their job is to show their knowledge, but to also make mistakes because making mistakes lead to success. They will be included within the teaching process because they must be able to communicate what they have learned to others. They will be able to use feedback and adapt to using different methods in various subjects. They will become knowledge seekers, life-long learners, self-reflective, and goal setting students.
What is the role of the parent?
• The parents must be an active participant in the education process because they are a support system for the student. They must also communicate with the student and the teacher to address the student’s needs at home and school. It’s imperative to have communication to further support their child especially when it comes to their role as an advocate for the importance of a good education.
Overall, my teaching philosophy is like a ripple effect. The education system will is the rock that is thrown in the water. Once the education systems hits the water it begins to ripple and touch everything around it until it fades. Everything that it touches includes the community, school, the teacher, the student, and the parents. Once the ripple has left, a new rock is thrown in and this new rock builds on the ripple effect of the prior rock. The size and the weight of the rock effect how far the ripples go. Being a teacher is like a ripple effect because you do many things that can change students thoughts or views by giving them information and resources that extend their previous knowledge. The teacher ripples information to the student, then the student ripples the information out into the world or community. Overall, teaching is a continuous cycle that affects various aspects in the education community. The way that we teach and the process of learning impacts the students, school, and community that surround us. As a teacher, I become successful when your students are successful.
